Malgré la pandémie, la Global Game Jam aura bien lieu cette année. Comme pour les éditions précédentes, le principe reste le même : sur un thème dévoilé au début de l’édition, vous devrez créer, seul ou en équipe, un jeu en l’espace de 48h. De quoi vous exercer, progresser, ou tout simplement pour le plaisir.
La bascule en ligne crée tout de même quelques changements (comme l’explique le site sur une page que nous reprenons ci-dessous) : en pratique, les personnes qui participent pourront si elles le souhaitent travailler durant 5 jours, du 27 au 31 janvier, ou respecter le délai classique. Les sites organisateurs pourront fixer les 48h entre le 27 et le 31, comme bon leur semblera.
La Global Game Jam n’étant pas une compétition mais plutôt une occasion de célébrer le jeu vidéo et d’apprendre, ces modifications n’ont pas une importance majeure : l’esprit reste le même.

What are the important dates for the Global Game Jam®?
– 15th October 2020: globalgamejam.org open to accept new jam site applications
– 1st December 2020: globalgamejam.org open for jammer sign ups
– 13th January 2021: Jam site registration period ends
– 27 – 31 January 2021: GGJ Online starts worldwide.**To accommodate the online format we have allowed for 5 days for the jam this year which allows Site Organizers to freely choose which 48 hours to have their jam. When those 2 days are depends on which jam site you attend as a participant.
Site Organizers may provide support at other times/moments of course, though officially they should at least provide support for their 48 hours, starting from the starting date they applied with as SO.
If participants are up to jam from the 27th to 31st, there’s no issue really and that’s totally fine! The theme will be announced globally prior to the jam. Participants are then free to jam from the 27th until the submission deadline on the 31st. Participants who choose to only jam 48 hours will not need to regard GGJ Online 2021 as a 5 day event.
The 48 hour « limit » is more so for Site Organizers to not feel overwhelmed, and the 5 days also allows for participants to jam earlier than usual in case of interruptions while jamming at home.
January 31st (for each timezone) is the deadline for submissions globally.
