The online platform The Animation Showcase recently updated their catalog with new exclusive content and Oscar-Qualified short films. Last, but not least: if you’re part of the animation/movie industry, you can register for free!
What’s on the menu?
Here are a few short films available on The Animation Showcase:
- Robin Robin, a stop-motion musical by Aardman Studios.
- The Windshield Wiper, Alberto Mielgo’s latest short film. You probably already know this artist: he worked on the artistic direction of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and he also worked on The Witness from the series Love, Death + Robots.
- Mum is pouring rain, directed by Hugo de Faucompret, prized at Annecy Festival.
- The Boob Fairy, directed by Léahn Vivier-Chapas.
- Souvenir Souvenir by Bastien Dubois, a short film about the Algerian War, a man and his grandfather.
- Some French Oscar Qualified short films, such as I am a Pebble (don’t miss our interview with the directors!), Louis’ shoes, The Source of the Mountains.
At this point, you probably understand that The Animation Showcase hosts a diverse selection of films. Even though the platform focuses on short films at the moment, a feature-length animated movie will probably be available as soon as the beginning of next year.
How, who ?
Free movies? Is this even legal? Yes, actually! At the root of The Animation Showcase is Benoit Berthe Siward, who among other things promotes Oscar-Qualified short films.
He used to organize screenings at major animation studios to showcase these shorts, and other animated projects. Due tu the pandemic, this was not possible anymore, and he decided to launch his own online platform to accomplish a similar goal. This also explains why you have to work within the animation/movies industries to join the platform: the creators & rights holders can’t just allow their content to be available to everyone, otherwise they would not be able to enter festivals afterwards.
How can I register?
If you work in the animation or movies industries, all you have to do is fill in the form linked below. You will need to include a proof such as a LinkedIn profile or a link to your demoreel. Once your registration has been checked, you will receive a link and password by e-mail.
